Helpful Information

Absence

Positive attitudes towards attendance is essential for your child to succeed at school. If children see us valuing good attendance, they will adopt similar attitudes. If you are unsure whether to keep your child at home, do call school and ask for advice. It is important you contact school before 9.30am to inform us of any absence. This enables us to complete the register (a legal document) accurately.

Requests for absences during term time will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please see our Absence Policy for more details.

Concerns or Complaints

We hope our ‘open door’ policy ensures good dialogue between home and school. If you have a concern, please speak to a member of staff. Little worries can become big problems if they are not dealt with promptly.

Our recommended route… Firstly, speak to your child’s class teacher. Try to catch them at the end of the day when they will have more time to listen to you. If that does not bring about a happy outcome, then see the Headteacher; either pop in or make an appointment.

 Individual needs

Each pupil’s learning journey is supported through the partnership between parents, pupils and staff. Next steps are identified and planned for in the form of additional support or challenges to encourage pupils to be active thinkers. We actively engage the partnership of other professional specialism to ensure we provide just the right support.

Assessment and reporting

As a small school we are able to monitor pupil progress closely. We talk with you about your child’s progress and involve you fully in their development.

You will receive your child's annual report in the last half of the summer term.

Pupil progress interviews are held each term.

Communication

Weekly newsletters, containing helpful information and news, event details and letters can all be found on our website.

Teachers keep you informed of events in the classroom. It is helpful if you can respond to their communication promptly. Most importantly, staff are always at the gate at the end of each day for that important chat.

Homework

We value homework as a celebration of achievement and a love of learning. These positive values and attitudes towards learning become established for life. Homework creates opportunity to consolidate understanding and explore new avenues of learning through self-study. It is important that children spend quality time with you completing homework tasks. We encourage you to add comments and feedback and you will always receive a reply. Homework is always marked in a respectful way acknowledging effort and achievement.

Homework is set on Friday and returned by the next Wednesday.  Spelling work is set on Monday for a spelling test on Friday.

Educational Visits

School visits are considered a valuable part of the curriculum. They fully support the learning that is taking place. We follow County procedures to ensure visits are safe and appropriately planned. Costs are always kept as low as possible and your contribution, although voluntary, is often necessary to make the visit possible. Parents are asked to complete an ‘out of school’ consent form at the beginning of each academic year.

You will always receive detailed information about a planned visit and we are happy to discuss any queries you may have.

Medicine

Poorly children are a worry to any parent. You know your child better than anyone else and are best placed to make the decision as to whether or not they should be at school. Sometimes children become ill during the school day. We therefore need up to date contact details to get in touch with you promptly.

  • Pupils must not have any medication in their ownership at any time.
  • Only prescribed medication will be accepted by staff. We will do our best to remember to administer it at the right time.
  • Parents will be asked to complete a medicine form.
  • Medicine is always stored in a safe place.
  • A register is kept for pupils with asthma, dietary needs and individual medical needs.
