Welcome to Smart Zone.

Hello and welcome to Smart Zone class 2023/2024!

The children of Smart Zone class are now in LKS2 and what an incredibly interesting journey they have had over the last couple of years! Our children have already shown an amazing level of resilience and have been extremely flexible in adapting to new learning challenges throughout the past years, and we cannot wait to see the fantastic things that they achieve in the coming year.

Our Autumn Term topic is 'The Egyptians'.
The children will explore Ancient Egyptian civilisation, focussing on the period between the time of the first pharaoh around 3100 BC to the Romans invasion in 31 BC, when Egypt became part of the Roman Empire. Across this topic, pupils will look at the impact of particular people and events as well as broader themes of significance, achievements, chronology and legacy.

Music
Music this term will consist of learning the ukelele over the course of 10 sessions with a local music teacher. I am super excited to learn how to play a new instrument and I hope the children are too.
Reading
Reading is a lifelong skill that we try to develop as your child continues their journey through our school. We are keen to develop a love of books and escapism as early as possible, which is why we are introducing ‘Accelator Reader’ this year. We would greatly appreciate your support with this new initiative, not only by listening to your child read but by perhaps sharing some of your favourite books from your childhood with them too.

Guided Reading
This term's class reader is 'Secrets of a Sun written by Emma Carroll. This novel is an adventure book that shares the exciting story of the discovery of a long-dead pharaoh. Lilian, an eager thirteen-year-old, waits anxiously for the news. When her grandad, Ezra, falls ill; a parcel is delivered. Due to Lilian's curiosity, she opens the parcel and finds a strange vase. Will she save her Grandad no matter the cost?
Spellings
Spellings to learn at home will be sent out on Mondays and the children will be tested on the Friday of the same week. At year 4, pupils must be able to spell the Y1/2 words and the majority of the Y3/4 words to be awarded ‘Working At’ Age Related Expectations.  Working on these at home will really support the work we are doing in school. A copy of these can be found below.

P.E.
Our PE days our Wednesday and Friday. Please send your child to school in their PE kits on these days.
