Southerly Point Trust 22.3.16

22nd March 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

We wrote to you in the summer to explain that there has been a change in Government policy which sets out for all schools being part of Multi-Academy Trusts by 2020. A Multi-Academy Trust is a legal entity that governs a group of schools through a single set of trustees. It is set up by a group of schools, usually a local collaboration, that share a common ethos and vision.

Therefore, our schools, who already work together as part of Southerly Point Co-operative Educational Trust*, decided to explore the possibility of establishing a Co-operative Multi-Academy Trust to build on all the good work the Trust has undertaken so far.

The existing Trust has provided a wide range of opportunities for your children, from participation in a range of sports to enrichment in subjects such as Maths, and has enhanced training for staff so that they can be even more effective in the classroom. Leaders in our schools have provided support and challenge to each other and we have seen schools’ Ofsted grades improve as a result. Governors are keen to build on the success of the Trust and want to enable the 17 schools to continue to work together co-operatively.

Governors and head teachers have explored various models for Multi-Academy Trusts and believe that we have identified an appropriate model to take this forward.

We thought you would like the opportunity to find out more, have the opportunity to ask questions and help us with your feedback to shape the way forward.

To this end, each school will be holding an information session for parents to which you are invited.

Sithney and Garras Schools will be sharing their meeting with other local schools; this will ensure that everyone hears the same message. This meeting will take place on Wed 20th April at 6:30pm at Mullion Secondary School. If the distance is a problem for you, there is a more local meeting planned at Godolphin School (the date and time to be confirmed), which Mrs Evans will also be attending. Detailed minutes will be taken for those of you unable to attend and will be distributed to everyone afterwards. If you wish to discuss this further after the meeting we will be most happy to meet for a ‘cuppa and natter’.

We will also publish information on the schools’ websites, along with a Frequently Asked Questions page, in order to give everyone the chance to be kept informed.

Assuring you, as always, of our commitment to you and your children.

Yours sincerely,
