Spring Term 2017
30th January 2017
Change to the Absence policy
Last October we informed our parents that the schools’ attendance (absence) policy
would be reviewed, making sure that it is in line with the latest County and National
policies. This review has now been completed by the governors, with careful
consideration of the Ofsted Inspection findings on attendance, and the following
changes have been made under ‘exceptional circumstances’;
The Governors consider three two criteria that may meet ‘exceptional circumstances’ but in each case, the final decision remains with the executive head teacher.
In the case of a parent serving in the armed forces returning from active service.
In the case of parents whose income/employment is totally related to the tourism industry and can therefore only take a family holiday ‘out of season’.
In the case of death or serious illness of a close family member.
In effect, this means that any request for family holiday or other leave of absence taken in term time will no longer be authorised, starting immediately. Please note that any parent requesting leave of absence will be invited to a meeting with Mrs Wandless, Mr Sturges or Miss Neil.
If you experience any difficulties with regards to attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me and we can discuss ways in which we can help you. Please be reassured that your child’s well-being is our top priority and we are always willing to support you in any way we can.
Thank you for your continued support.

Visit to Eden Project – 20th February 2017
To round off our topic of Rumble in the Jungle this term, we have arranged an educational visit to The Eden Project for all pupils at Sithney and Garras.
The trip will take place on Monday 20th February, with the bus leaving from Flora Motors carpark in Helston at 8.45am, and returning to Flora Motors carpark at 4pm. The children need to wear school uniform and will require a packed lunch. If your child is in Busy Zone or Wonder Zone packed lunches will be provided by the school’s kitchen. You may wish to top this up with an extra drink and snack. If your child suffers from travel sickness please ensure any medication required is labelled and handed in to your child’s class teacher for safe keeping.
On this occasion we have needed to book coaches to take us to Eden. The cost of the trip includes transport, admission and a workshop. The best ‘per pupil’ cost we could establish is £10. FOSS has kindly agreed to help reduce these costs further by making a contribution after the result of your fantastic support at the Christmas Fayre. This means the final cost will be £5.00. I know we can only ask for a voluntary contribution towards all educational trips, but I must point out that if insufficient funds are received, then the trip will not be viable. We require all monies to be in by Friday 10th February 2017.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.
